Do you think more women would watch 'men's' sports if there were less beer adds and more male cheerleaders?

Be honest. Where is the 'eye candy' for the girls? Do women really want to sit in front of a TV and watch beer commercials when they could be getting entertained by good looking men doing something 'athletic' on the sidelines during the breaks? Think about it for a minute before you answer.

Good point. You can't really see these guys with their helmets on, but damn those pants make their butts look good.

I like to watch football sometimes. But I mostly like to do that with friends and cold beer.

As for getting a wider audience, the women watch it because their men do for the most part. I have some real football fan girlfriends, but I think they actually like watching the sport itself.

We're not in it for the candy. But it would be nice.

I wouldn't because I think sports are boring. However, when I was young there were a number of sportsmen who girls at my school were very keen on. There was the football player George Best for instance, who many of the girls were absolutely nutty about (one of them was still keen on him up until the time of his death just a few years ago). And there was a tennis player called Ilya Nastase who they were very keen on too.

I don't suppose women who watch men's sports need cheerleaders, because the sportsmen themselves are the focu of interest.

OK I've thought.

There are only 2 reasons I can think of to watch American football or "gridiron" and they are 1. fullbacks and 2. tight ends. Silly cheerleaders would just get in the way.

Same for the footy. Why is AFL (Aussie Rules) so much more fun to watch? Much faster game, plus tighter shorts.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind a more interesting show on the sidelines, but not something sleazy like cheerleading. Maybe some really competent fire-twirling and acrobatics.

The problem with the female cheerleading setup is it's an uneasy mix of gymnastic and dance prowess with tacky porn-style display of bodies. This is sending confused messages and turning families off attending live sporting events. A lot of teams such as Souths are getting away from that and putting on more interesting shows in the breaks.

Before anyone gets huffy about this consider that Souths are Russell Crowe's team, and he's about as masculine as anyone could wish.

i think it differs depending on the individual,what there attracted to and the fact that maybe they just like watching the sport itself and don't care about unrelated details,for instance i watch two completely different sports for different reasons,i watch ufc because i've been in martial arts most of my life and it's the closest thing to no holds barred on television,i watch it for the sake of the sport,i watch japanese male figure skating because i find the men attractive

To be honest, I don't think girls would be more inclined to enjoy sports more at all if those changes were made. Even if there were "eye candy" for girls, think about how little time is dedicated to the cheerleaders.

haha maybe or if there were shopping spree prizes and like more strategy to the game. Also it would be easier to identify with a female athelite maybe. IDK though, i just find sports to be boring an irrelevant. TO each thier own though i suppose

No. The only sports I'm even remotely interested in are equestrian sports (show jumping & dressage). The beautiful horses provide me with all the eye candy I need.

Cheerleaders? That's the last thing you need in any sport, they're a distraction.

Women are into sports more today, so they can keep up with the spouses & boy friends.
